Ready to give your home a top-to-bottom buffing? Start by focusing your efforts on the big pieces and on the places that make the most difference to you: furnishings, appliances, and carpeting. Once you’ve covered these major tasks, you’ll have your home spring-cleaned in no time.
- 1. Make doormats welcoming.
Shake ‘em, wash ‘em, swat ‘em with a broom. Give them the toughest cleaning they can take. They’re your front line against tracked-in dirt — so keep them clean enough to function at peak efficiency.
- 2. Clean carpets and upholstery.
Fabrics that have absorbed a winter’s worth of dirt, body oil, and germs will need a deep cleaning to get them ready for another year of wear — and for that close inspection by your relaxing guests.
Some additional tips for your Utah carpet cleaning or Utah upholsterycleaning. Save time by moving furniture just slightly out of the room or against the wall, as the old rules dictated — and place the legs of each piece back on top of small wax paper squares after cleaning. The wax paper will protect your carpet and keep the furniture legs from getting wet as the carpet dries. Open the windows to speed the drying process, which can take a few hours or so. Call your Utah Carpet Cleaning professional carpet and upholstery cleaner like Advantage Chem-Dry to do the work and take the morning off or even on a Saturday
- 3. Finish your floors.
To protect the floors in your kitchen from another year of wear and tear, wax or apply a sealer following label directions. The simplest method: Use a combination wash-and-wax floor cleaner. Don’t feel guilty about saving time!
No-wax floors don’t need a polishing treatment, but an occasional makeover will keep them looking fresher — and add a protective buffer that could help them last longer. Use a floor cleaner that cleans, shines, or both. It’s best to follow label directions for proper use of each product. If you have wood floors, move furniture and rugs aside, then apply a wood cleaner and either liquid or paste polish to clean and add a new wax coating.
And don’t forget your Utah tile and grout cleaning.
- 4. Wash walls, cabinets, baseboards, and woodwork.
The walls may not look as if they need a bath — after all, dust and soot fall to the floor, right? Most of it does, but just enough clings to vertical surfaces to warrant a seasonal or preholiday bath. Use a sponge and hand dishwashing detergent, washing the surface in sections. A sponge mop makes it easier to reach higher spots. Use two buckets: one for dishwashing detergent solution and another for wringing your sponge. Dry the walls and woodwork with a clean cloth.
- 5. Vacuum with intelligence.
The old rules mandated that you go through the labor-intensive task of dragging every stick of furniture off the carpet, just so the vacuum cleaner could cover every nook and cranny. The new rules will save you time, and you’ll still get the corner-to-corner cleaning done: Simply move those big items a little to the left or to the right. Vacuum the area previously occupied by the furniture and then move it back into place.
- 6. Clean ceiling fixtures.
Remove dust and dirt from ceiling fans and air-conditioner vents with a cloth and a vacuum with a soft nozzle attachment.
- 7. Clean your light fixtures.
A few minutes with a stepladder, all-purpose cleaner, a sponge, and a polish cloth will give new light to your life. If your home has skylights or tall ceilings, consider investing in a stepladder and extended-reach dust-and-dirt-removal tools, all of which are available at your local hardware store and at home — and janitorial — supply stores.
- 8. Check your coils.
You should clean the refrigerator’s condenser coil, usually found behind the toe grille, with a long-handled bottle brush and a vacuum cleaner with an attachment hose to remove dust and lint. Built-up dust can shut down the unit by causing it to overheat.
To remove dust from coils attached to the hard-to-reach back side of the fridge, carefully pull the refrigerator out several feet (newer models roll on casters) and vacuum thoroughly; finish by sweeping or vacuuming the floor area you’ve revealed. Expect to rediscover coins, bottle caps, and twist ties that you and the cat knocked over the past year.
As the temperatures rise and it becomes warmer don’t forget about your Utah Air Conditioning Coils.

I had a interesting call recently. A customer called, we had done her carpet cleaning in Salt Lake City. The problem was that she also wanted the protectant. She usually has the protectant applied when she gets her carpets cleaned. She was not at home for this carpet cleaning, her husband was and she had not given him any specific instructions about protectant. He said no to the having the protectant applied, because of the added cost. Well as lack of luck would have it: they had two spills on the carpet within four days. One of the spills was from red wine and would not come entirely with the Chem-Dry spot remover, leaving a pink stain in the carpet. Carpet protectants help to protect against stains and also help more dry soils to vacuum up.
She was sad and disappointed of course. We were happy to help the best we could. We offered to come back and do the spot cleaning for free, and apply the protectant for the same price we offered at the time of the original cleaning. the was one lesson to be learned though. The spot cleaning did not remove all of the pink stain from the wine. Fortunately, our red stain removal process was able to get the red dyes out, and this this case did not leave a trace of pink. This is a slow and tedious procedure at an additional charge, but is usually successful with the red dyes from food and drinks. So, the next time we’re doing your carpet cleaning in Salt Lake City don’t forget the protectant.

The seasons take a toll on the floors inside our homes and getting them clean is best left to the professionals who know how to handle the fibers of expensive carpets. Most homeowners look at their wall to wall carpets as a significant investment and taking good care of them is important. There are always options when you seek carpet cleaning in Utah, but it is wise to be aware of the most effective and natural choice that can leave carpets very clean and fresh with absolutely no sticky residue of any kind of soap or detergent. This method is also as earth friendly as can be.
The secret to Green Carpet Cleaning In Utah is the use of carbonated water, and no harsh chemicals. The same effervescent feeling you get from a refreshing sparkling water as a drink can be the power that gets your carpets cleaner than they have ever been. The carbonated fresh, clean water is a gentle and effective way to lift the dirt embedded in the carpet and float it to the surface for easy extraction. The use of charged clean water is the way to remove all dirt and stains from the carpeting with no soapy film left behind. No film or residue to attract dirt means carpets are cleaner and they also stay cleaner longer.
For the household that have pets, there are always the additional concerns of keeping the floors fresh and clean while removing the telltale signs that the pets may have left on the floors. For urine odor removal Utah carpet cleaners know what a challenge it can be. If the odors can be corrected, you can trust Advantage Chem-Dry to diagnose the problem and give you your options.
Trusting the professionals for carpet cleaning in Utah is the way to have floors that are clean and carpeting that is soft and like new, even after it has been there for many years or even decades. Green cleaning chemicals are eco-friendly. The green label on these products implies that they are non-harmful to the environment. The popularity of these solutions has been increasing over the last few years and will likely continue to rise as more people become aware of the harmful effects of toxic chemicals.
It is a proven fact that many cleaning detergents are harmful. Just take a look at a conventional detergent’s MSDS sheet and you may find a host of known hazardous ingredients. Continuous use of these artificial cleaning detergents can damage surfaces and can affect the health of the person using the detergents as well as those who are exposed to the area. After all, the chemicals in such detergents do not breakdown readily and remain as toxic residue in the environment.
Using green chemical products as a substitute for harmful chemical detergents is the solution. Green cleaning chemicals are easily biodegradable and do not convert into toxic residues when introduced into the environment. In addition, they do not cause any harm either to the people in the area or to the surface.
Green cleaning services are available to you through Advantage Chem-Dry. We take pride in using green, eco-friendly products to clean your Norther Utah home. Why put your family and pets in danger with the harsh cleaning chemicals used by other carpet cleaning companies? Advantage Chem-Dry uses carbonated water to clean your carpets. The water we use is so safe, the FDA has approved it for human consumption. How is that for safe?
Chem-Dry is more than just a carpet cleaning solution. It is much more than a unique process or even a growing franchise system.
Chem-Dry’s origins date back to a young man working his way through law school in the early 1970′s. Robert Harris was a carpet cleaner and was working for someone else. Unhappy with the performance of the cleaning products then available, he began looking for a better solution. His research stretched into years and years of studying the chemical properties of cleaning formulas and years of backbreaking experiments which required cleaning areas of dirty carpet with one formula and then another.
Eventually he found his formula – a revolutionary carbonated solution that not only cleaned beautifully, but was also safe and non-toxic. With the birth of Chem-Dry came self-employment and success. The demand for his cleaning services mushroomed and soon friends and family clamored for his secret. From the first small group of franchises, the Chem-Dry network has grown to thousands of successful franchises around the world
Proper carpet care is an essential component to ensuring a healthy home. Stains and worn traffic areas can disappoint potential buyers and new homeowners alike. Follow these simple steps for ensuring clean carpets:
- Vacuum carpets three times a week.
- Have your carpets professionally cleaned annually with a hot water extraction method to ensure warranty compliance. For high traffic areas and extra dirty areas, a more regular routine may be required.
- Quickly remove spots before they become stains. When possible, use a suction or extraction tool in addition to blotting. Groom over any cleaned areas with a towel to lift the carpet pile for a more uniform look. For tough spots and stains, contact a Chem-Dry cleaning specialist.
There are two ways to clean carpet and upholstery: Chem Dry and steam cleaning. Each process uses a different cleaning method, but in the end, your carpet and upholstery are usually clean. When making the decision about which method to use, there are some things to know and consider.
- Chem Dry is a company well known for cleaning upholstery and carpets with a chemical cleaner rather than hot water. It uses microscopic carbonated bubbles to get deep into the carpet and then, with the help of carbonation, the dirt, stains and grime are extracted away. The terms “chem dry” and “dry carpet cleaning” are often synonymous with carpet and upholstery cleaning using this method.
- The major benefit of using Chem Dry is that the carpet and upholstery quickly dries. Little to no liquid is left behind in your carpet, which can often lead to more dirt and grime getting trapped in. You can usually walk on carpet immediately even though the cleaned surfaces will not be completely dry in the first few hours. Some people may think the cost of chemical cleaning is expensive, but it actually costs about the same as professional steam cleaning. You cannot, however, do this process yourself at home.
- Steam cleaning uses hot water and a chemical cleaning solution. A cleaning machine agitates and soaks the carpet to loosen the dirt and stains. The machine then immediately vacuums up the water, cleaner, dirt, stains and grime leaving you with clean carpet or upholstery.
- You can hire a professional to steam clean your carpets and upholstery, or you can do it yourself with a rented or owned machine. While some people are concerned about the chemicals in the cleaning solution, you can use just hot water, especially if you are doing it yourself. Cleaning it yourself is cheap compared to professional cleaning, and buying a machine usually pays off in about two cleanings. The disadvantage of steam cleaning is that the water tends to remain in the carpet or upholstery for days. Professionals are able to extract more water than the average homeowner, however some water is still left behind. This water can then trap in more dirt and grime if it is used. There is also a chance, if it does not dry thoroughly, that the moisture could lead to possible mold and bacteria growth.
- The debate is on. Some homeowners believe Chem Dry can get rid of stains that steam cleaning could not and vice versa. There are no official studies to compare both cleaning processes, but since steam cleaning can leave water and chemicals behind, if you have small children or pets, you may wish to consider Chem Dry.

Which Cleans Best?
The secret to Chem-Dry’s healthier clean, more thorough clean is the millions of microscopic, carbonating cleaning bubbles in our cleaner we call The Natural. The carbonating solutions penetrate deep into the base of the carpet, literally exploding dirt and grime off of the fiber’s surface. Then, we use hot water extraction to lift the dirty particles to the surface where they are whisked away.
This concept is almost identical to that of using club soda to remove a stain from a shirt. The awesome cleaning power of carbonating solutions creates a powerful reaction that deep cleans carpets and upholstery in a safe and gentle way.
Due to the natural power of carbonation, Chem-Dry does not have to use excessive amounts of moisture to clean your carpet or upholstered items. Because the bubbles do the work for us, Chem-Dry does not need to use soapy cleaning chemicals that other cleaners or do-it-yourself machines rely on so much. Soapy residues attract dirt like a magnet, causing your carpet to get dirty again faster than before.
Chem-Dry’s primary carpet cleaning solution contains no soaps, detergents or surfactants. You save money when your carpet stays cleaner longer. Less cleanings means better bang for you buck and one less thing to worry about.
While regular carpet cleaning by professionals is necessary to ensure your carpet leads a long and healthy life, additional care and maintenance on your part can go a long way. Proper care and maintenance of your carpet will extend its useful life and preserve its appearance longer. Failure to maintain proper care will result in premature wear. Additionally, clean carpets contribute to a healthy indoor environment.
1- Vacuum your carpets three times a week using a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA (high-efficiency particulate) filter.
2- Remove stains and spills as promptly as possible. this is best achieved with Chem-Dry Professional Strength Spot Remover. Remove as much excess as possible, then apply and blot with a clean white cloth. DO NOT rub the spot as this might grind the stain in further.
3- Have your carpets cleaned and protected at least twice a year by Chem-Dry, or more often if you have children or pets.
As a technician with Chem Dry, a lot of the carpet cleaning jobs I go to are people moving into a new place. Even if the carpet looks fine, all sorts of things might be down there and we can take care of them all. Another service we offer is tile cleaning.
